The CPCT (Computer Proficiency Certification Test) is conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Agency for Promotion of Information Technology (MAP_IT) for the MP state government. This certification is mandatory for all state government posts in Madhya Pradesh that require computer operation. The typing component tests candidates at 8000 keystrokes per hour (KDPH), which is equivalent to approximately 27 words per minute.
The CPCT typing test is conducted in both English and Hindi. For English, candidates must type using the standard QWERTY keyboard layout. For Hindi, candidates must use the Inscript keyboard layout with Mangal Unicode font. The test duration is 15 minutes, and candidates must maintain this speed throughout.
Our CPCT typing test practice includes 30+ passages carefully designed to match actual CPCT exam content — general knowledge, administrative language, and current affairs-style passages. Start practicing with our CPCT mode today: select CPCT from the Category menu and set your timer to 15 minutes.
CPCT Typing Tips: Focus on accuracy first. Even at 8000 KDPH, one error can reduce your net score significantly. Practice Hindi typing with Mangal font if applying for Hindi medium posts. Visit the official CPCT website for the complete syllabus.
The SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) examination is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for recruitment to posts like LDC (Lower Division Clerk), JSA (Junior Secretariat Assistant), PA (Postal Assistant), and SA (Sorting Assistant). The typing test is a skill test (qualifying in nature) that must be passed after clearing the written rounds.
For English typing, candidates must achieve 35 Words Per Minute (WPM). For Hindi typing, the requirement is 30 Words Per Minute. The test duration is 10 minutes and is conducted on computers provided at examination centres. Errors are penalized at 5% of gross speed.
SSC CHSL typing uses standard QWERTY layout for English. For Hindi, candidates can choose between Inscript and Remington (GAIL) keyboard layouts. Most candidates preparing in Hindi prefer the Remington layout as it is more similar to typewriter layouts they may already know.
Visit the SSC official website for the latest notification. Our SSC CHSL practice mode is calibrated to the exact difficulty level of actual SSC passages.
Mangal is a Unicode Devanagari font developed by Microsoft, now the standard font for Hindi typing in all modern Indian government examinations. Unlike legacy fonts like KrutiDev which use ANSI encoding, Mangal uses Unicode — meaning the text can be stored, shared, and displayed correctly across all platforms and operating systems.
For Hindi typing with Mangal font, two keyboard layouts are commonly used: Inscript (the official government standard) and Remington Gail (adapted for those familiar with typewriter layout). The Inscript layout is phonetically logical and easier to learn from scratch. Remington Gail is preferred by those switching from KrutiDev typing.
Government exams requiring Mangal Unicode typing include CPCT, High Court Stenographer exams, SSC CHSL Hindi option, and most state-level PSC examinations. Our Mangal typing practice includes 50+ authentic Hindi passages in Unicode Devanagari script for effective preparation.
The RRB NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories) examination includes a typing skill test for Junior Clerk Cum Typist, Account Clerk Cum Typist, and Traffic Assistant posts. Candidates who qualify the Computer Based Test (CBT) are called for the typing test as a final qualifying round.
The Railway typing test requires 30 WPM in English or 25 WPM in Hindi. The test is conducted for 10 minutes on official computers. Error rate is a critical factor — no more than 5% errors are generally acceptable.
Practice regularly with our Railway NTPC mode. We provide texts similar to actual railway exam passages covering administrative language, general correspondence, and official communication formats. Check the RRB official website for current notifications.
Everything you need to know about typing tests and exam preparation
For government exams in India: CPCT requires 8000 KDPH (~27 WPM), SSC CHSL needs 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi, Railway NTPC needs 30 WPM in English, and High Court exams typically require 40 WPM. The national average is around 40–52 WPM. Aim to type at least 10 WPM above the required speed to clear with comfort.
WPM = (Total correct characters / 5) ÷ (Time in minutes). A "word" is standardized as 5 characters regardless of actual word length. NetWPM = RawWPM – (errors/time). Our test displays both Raw WPM and Net WPM in the results screen so you know your true speed.
For exam aspirants: practice 30–60 minutes daily divided into multiple sessions. Research shows that 3–4 focused 15-minute sessions are more effective than one long session. Focus on accuracy first — speed comes naturally once muscle memory develops. You should see a 5 WPM improvement every 1–2 weeks with consistent practice.
KDPH (Keystrokes Per Hour) is used in exams like CPCT. WPM (Words Per Minute) is the international standard. Conversion: 8000 KDPH ÷ 60 minutes ÷ 5 chars per word ≈ 26.7 WPM. So if you type 30+ WPM, you comfortably exceed 8000 KDPH requirements.
For modern government exams (CPCT, High Court, SSC Hindi, most state PSCs): learn Mangal (Unicode) with Inscript keyboard layout. It is the future standard and works on all modern systems. KrutiDev is a legacy ANSI font — only practice it if your specific exam notification explicitly mentions KrutiDev. Check your exam notification carefully.
Yes, touch typing is significantly faster and less tiring. Touch typists average 50–80 WPM while hunt-and-peck typists typically max out at 30–40 WPM. Touch typing also reduces eye strain. If you're preparing for a government exam, invest 2–4 weeks learning the home row keys. The short-term slowdown is worth it for long-term speed gain.
Government exam centres provide keyboards — you cannot bring your own. They typically use standard membrane keyboards. Practice on a similar keyboard (not mechanical) to match the exam environment. However, using a good keyboard at home for practice is fine — the skills transfer. Avoid changing keyboard types too close to your exam date.
Accuracy = (Correct characters / Total characters typed) × 100. If you typed 500 characters total and 450 were correct, your accuracy is 90%. For government exams, maintain at least 95% accuracy. Most exams have a 5% error allowance — exceeding this disqualifies you regardless of your WPM speed.
Yes! StudyHub Typing Test provides free Hindi typing practice with Mangal Unicode and KrutiDev passages. Select "हिंदी" from the Category menu, or use the dedicated CPCT practice mode. We have 50+ Hindi passages specifically designed for CPCT preparation. No registration required.
8000 keystrokes per hour = 133 keystrokes per minute = approximately 26.7 WPM (using the standard 5 characters per word calculation). So if you can type 30 WPM consistently with good accuracy, you meet the CPCT requirement of 8000 KDPH comfortably. Aim for 35 WPM to have a safety margin.
High Court typing requirements vary by state. Generally: Allahabad High Court requires 40 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi for LDC posts. Delhi High Court requires 35 WPM. Rajasthan High Court requires 40 WPM. Always check the specific notification for your state High Court as requirements can differ.
Yes, with practice! Younger individuals (18–25) typically learn new typing habits faster. However, adults can achieve professional speeds at any age. Regular practice is the key variable, not age. Older typists often have better accuracy due to patience. World record holders have come from various age groups.
Our typing test closely simulates the interface and difficulty of actual government exam typing software. We use similar passage difficulty levels, same font sizes, similar error detection logic, and comparable passage lengths. While actual exam software may have minor interface differences, the core typing mechanics are identical.
To improve accuracy: 1) Slow down deliberately and focus on each keystroke. 2) Don't look at your keyboard — use touch typing. 3) Practice problem keys identified in the error heatmap. 4) Use the Beginner difficulty and short passages initially. 5) Never sacrifice accuracy for speed during practice. Speed follows naturally once accuracy is consistent. Target 98%+ accuracy in practice to achieve 95%+ in exams.
Inscript (Indian Script) is a standardized keyboard layout developed by the Indian government for typing Indian scripts including Hindi/Devanagari. It maps Devanagari consonants and vowels to standard QWERTY keys in a phonetically logical manner. It is supported natively in Windows (add Hindi Inscript from keyboard settings) and is the preferred layout for modern government exam Hindi typing. It's easier to learn than Remington/KrutiDev for beginners.
