â Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between KrutiDev and Unicode? âŧ
KrutiDev (also called Kruti Dev 010) is a legacy 8-bit font encoding for Hindi/Devanagari. It encodes Hindi text using ASCII characters â so what you see depends on which font is installed. Unicode (Mangal font or Noto Sans Devanagari) is an international standard where each Hindi character has a unique code point, making it readable on any device without special fonts.
Which format do government exams use? âŧ
Modern government exams like CPCT, SSC, Railway, and High Courts now predominantly use Unicode (Mangal font via Inscript or Remington Gold keyboard layout). However, older DTP work and some state exams still use KrutiDev. It's important to know which format the exam specifically requires.
Is this converter accurate for all KrutiDev text? âŧ
This converter is built for KrutiDev 010 â the most widely used KrutiDev variant. It covers all standard vowels, consonants, matras, half-letters, conjuncts, and punctuation. Some rare regional characters or older KrutiDev font variants may not convert perfectly. Always verify critical documents.
Can I convert files? âŧ
Yes! Click the "Upload" button to load a .txt file. After conversion, click "Download .txt" to save the result. For Word (.docx) files, copy and paste the text instead, as binary Word files require server-side processing.
How do I type in Mangal/Unicode Hindi? âŧ
On Windows, go to Settings â Time & Language â Language â Add Hindi. Then in the keyboard settings, add "Hindi Inscript" or "Hindi Traditional" layout. Press Win+Space to switch between keyboards. Use our Typing Tutor to learn the layout and take typing tests to practice!
