WPM stands for Words Per Minute. One "word" = 5 keystrokes. Gross WPM counts all keystrokes; Net WPM deducts errors. Most government exams use Gross WPM.
KPH (Keystrokes Per Hour) is used in Indian government exams. 1 WPM = 300 KPH. CPCT requires 5000 KPH Gross for the basic certification.
CPCT Madhya Pradesh requires: Hindi typing — 5000 KPH (≈ 16.67 WPM Gross), English — 6000 KPH (≈ 20 WPM Gross), with 85% minimum accuracy.
SSC CHSL requires 35–40 WPM for English and 30 WPM for Hindi (Mangal font). SSC CGL Data Entry requires 100+ accuracy keystrokes per minute.
